GLASS INDUSTRY
APPLICATIONS
GfE Metalle und Materialien offers vanadium oxide for the
manufacture of glass materials with special properties. The absorption of
certain wave lengths of the light is adjusted with the degree of oxidation of
the vanadium.
On the one hand vanadium is used for
the absorption of undesired solar radiation. Pentavalent vanadium has got the
property of blocking ultraviolet light. Manufacturers of hollow glass products use
this property in beverage bottles for contents sensitive to UV light. Glass for shop
windows or fire doors can also be equipped this way.
On the other hand tetravalent
vanadium in the glass blocks infrared heat radiation. For example, this effect
is used in automobile windscreens or in glass ceramics for modern stove
cooking tops.
For these fields of application GfE Metalle und Materialien provides vanadium pentoxide to prepare the batch for the glass melt.
