NEW MATERIALS AND PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGIES
New Developments for the Materials of the 21st Century
GfE Metalle und Materialien GmbH is continuously working on newly and further developed products, materials and production technologies.
Our material development focuses on new High Performance
Structural Materials based on titanium and titanium alloys for the use in
aircraft engines and turbines, car racing and medical technology.
New and optimized materials are
also required as coating materials in PVD Technology. In particular, this
applies to semiconducting oxidic ceramics for flat glass coatings.
Development of New Materials
- Gamma Titanium Aluminum
- High temperature titanium alloys
- Biocompatible titanium alloys with low modulus of elasticity
- Semiconducting, transparent ceramics for Thin Film Technologies
Further Development of Production Processes in the Areas of
- Vacuum metallurgy
- Powder metallurgy (e.g. shock wave forging to compact powder blends)
- Ceramic technologies (e.g. freeze granulation)
- Coating procedures (e.g. low temperature PACVD = Plasma Activated Chemical Vapor Deposition)
Recent Developments in Vanadium Chemistry
GfE does not only produce vanadium compounds but also analyzes possible ways
to improve the purity of these compounds. In our research our customers’
requirements regarding certain physical product properties, such as specific
surface, grain shape and distribution, porosity and specific resistance, are
also considered.
The decrease in the use of materials and energy such as the
reduction or rather the utilization and commercialization of residues is a
constant challenge for us.
In the chemical industry, unlike in metallurgical applications, a multiplicity of vanadium properties is commercially used. In particular the projected application in current storage batteries (Vanadium Redox Batteries) and Lithium Polymer Batteries is very promising. In both fields GfE constantly exchanges information with the leading developers.
