PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY

THE GUARANTEE OF OPTIMAL QUALITY AND SERVICE

Metallurgical Melting

GfE produces alloys and pure metals based on so-called refractory metals. Therefore our most important technological core competence is metallurgical melting. Due to the high reactivity of the refractory metals towards oxygen and nitrogen, the melting has to be carried out under inert gas or in a vacuum, for which purpose GfE has developed an extensive portfolio of various technologies. We are able to offer our customers alloys based on titanium, vanadium, chromium, circonium, niobium, tantalum, aluminum, nickel and cobalt as well as the pure metals titanium, vanadium and chromium in the purity and quality they require. The utilized technologies include:

  • Aluminothermic reduction of metal oxides
  • Vacuum induction melting
  • Vacuum arc melting
  • High vacuum electron beam melting

Powder Metallurgy

Several materials cannot be produced by metallurgical melting or at least not in a cost-effective way. In such cases, powder metallurgical or ceramic technologies have to be used. This applies to composite materials (Chromium copper, tungsten copper), ceramic coating materials, some aluminum base materials (Aluminum titanium, aluminum chromium, aluminum silicon) and titanium and vanadium powders. GfE powder technologies include:

  • Powder production by hydrogen embrittlement
  • High-speed forging – Speed Pack
  • Powder preparation
  • Hydraulic powder compression
  • Atmospheric sintering
  • Vacuum/inert gas sintering

Auxiliary Technologies

The delivery form of the materials (powder, granules, lumps and qualified semi-finished products) can be defined by our customers. For the production of such delivery forms GfE uses the following auxiliary technologies:

  • Powderization
  • Inspection
  • Mechanical processing

Production of Vanadium Chemicals

GfE has gained extensive know-how in the extraction of high purity vanadium chemicals from industrial residues. We are working together with our customers to achieve both environmental and economic goals in the treatment of residues from power plants, gasifiers and refineries.
