Alloys

Need an alloy that satisfies the highest technical standards? Then you’ve come to the right place.

For over 50 years, GfE has manufactured alloys for the most demanding requirements. We continually develop new materials and technologies designed to meet the needs of our customers. This allows us to satisfy the constantly changing requirements for our customers. The technical knowledge and expertise in metallurgy that we’ve gained has led us to become one of the world’s leading providers of high-performance materials.

Better properties through the use of alloys

Our alloys – such as vanadium aluminum (VAl), aluminum tin zirconium chromium molybdenum (AlSnZrCrMo), or high purity FeNb (FeNb hp) – are used as supplements to improve the properties of the final alloys such as anti-corrosion and heat resistance.

At the same time, we are also able to reduce energy costs for our customers through shorter production times or lower melting points.

Quality-oriented

All work steps are monitored and supported by extensive testing procedures such as visual inspection, black light inspection, and X-ray inspection. This enables us to meet the highest requirements long-term and consistently guarantee you the highest level of quality.

Eco-friendly

As a reliable supplier in the aviation industry, GfE makes an essential contribution to the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Customer-oriented

Thanks to our distribution channels around the world, we’re able to provide you with personal advice and support at any time.

alloys for many industries

GfE offers a wide range of high-quality alloys for various industries and applications.

Our alloys, such as vanadium aluminum (VAl), are used for the manufacturing of aluminum alloys. Vanadium aluminum causes grain refinement with the goal of improving the mechanical properties of aluminum alloys. Among other things, these alloys are used to manufacture semi-finished products for a wide variety of areas of application:

  • Automotive industry (e.g. body panels, piston pins)
  • Sports and leisure industry (e.g. golf clubs, billiards cue sticks, bicycle frames, carabiners)

Chromium and ferro boron (FeB) are used in the foundry and steel industry, e.g. as

  • cast steel
  • micro-alloyed steel (e.g. construction/IF steel)
  • forged steel
  • tool steel

Our powder metallurgical alloys such as ferro vanadium (FeV), niobium chromium (NbCr), and nickel niobium high purity (NiNb hp) are used in a wide variety of areas of application, such as in mechanical alloys or for manufacturing

  • high-strength tool steels
  • ODS materials
  • welding electrodes (as filler for cored wires)
  • titanium alloys

GfE alloys such as high purity ferro niobium (FeNb hp) and high purity nickel niobium (NiNb) are used as alloy elements in manufacturing superalloys. The alloys improve their mechanical properties in terms of anti-corrosion prevention and heat resistance. Superalloys are notably used in the following industries:

  • Chemical plant engineering
  • Power plant industry (e.g. turbines)
  • Aviation industry (e.g. engines, aircraft design parts)
  • Off-shore technology (e.g. pipes)
  • Shipbuilding (e.g. submarines)

GfE alloys, such as vanadium aluminum (VAl), molybdeum aluminum (MoAl), and multi-material alloys such as aluminum tin zirconium molybdenum (AlSnZrMo) are used as supplements for manufacturing titanium alloys. These alloys bring about improvements in mechanical properties in terms of anti-corrosion and heat resistance. Titanium alloys are notably used in the following industries:

  • Automotive industry (e.g. springs, valves for racing)
  • Chemical plant engineering
  • Power plant industry (e.g. stationary gas turbines)
  • Aerospace industry (e.g. engines, aircraft design parts)
  • Off-shore technology (e.g. pipes)
  • Pack aluminizing (e.g. coating turbine blades)
  • Shipbuilding
  • Sports and leisure industry (e.g. golf clubs, climbing/sailing gear, bicycle frames)

Energy supply with Hydralloy® C

An essential component of alternative energy supply in the future is the use of hydrogen as an energy source. Over 30 years ago, GfE worked with other partners to develop an alloy that can safely store hydrogen. With the hydrogen storage alloy - Hydralloy® C - hydrogen is stored in a solid form as hydride; hydride tanks filled with the alloy are used for energy supply in submarines and special vehicles, to name a few examples. Even applications in the leisure sector, such as excursion boats and forklifts, can use Hydralloy® C to store hydrogen.
